RAP’s Technical Team enter The Sammies 2017 Technical Excellence Award

We’re tentatively awaiting the judges’ decision regarding The Sammies Technical Excellence Award, which is in its launch year. We entered our technical team and the development of the award-winning Freshpack Plus and our fingers are crossed.

Freshpack Plus is a real team effort and special mention should go to Dr Richard Paradine, Head of Technical and Project Manager, Tod Hunter, Technical Process Manager, Wai Lee, Technical Support Specialist, Quang Phung, Head of Construction Design and Paola Carceles, Packaging Technologist.

It represents a critical breakthrough in fresh food packaging and, thanks to its unique packaging design, it’s proven to keep food fresher for longer, which in turn, reduces wastes and helps manufacturers and retailers save money.

Added to this, the product:

  • Is 10% lighter than any other packs on the market.
  • Increases shelf life from three to four days.
  • Reduces airflow through the joints in the glued carton board pack to near zero.
  • Runs on standard equipment without adjustments.

Graham William, CEO of RAP, comments:

“We’re delighted to be entering our Freshpack Plus carton sandwich wedge into the Technical Excellence Award and for our technical team to be given the recognition they deserve.

“Typically, RAP development projects focus on consumer ergonomics or enhanced shelf impact, and tend to be led by the design team with technical support. However, the technical team was responsible for running this project, and they’ve created a packaging system that delivers real benefits for food manufacturers and retailers.”

The team combined their knowledge of complex packaging designs, alternative manufacturing techniques and customers’ equipment to bolster the pack’s structural strength.

Julian Money, Founder, added: “The team is focused on developing new, improved packaging to meet the ever-changing demands of the industry.

“This was instrumental to their success, and helps us to continue to push boundaries and deliver a significant transformation for some of Europe’s most well-known retailers, coffee shops and food-to-go retailers.

“Everyone at RAP is wishing our team the best of luck with the next stage of the awards.”

The shortlist for the awards will be announced on 13 March, with the final award being presented at the Lancaster Hotel, London, on 11 May.
