A day in the life of RAP’s finance team

Callum Barnes and Fuat Huseen are graduates who joined our finance team two years ago as Assistant Management Accountants.

In this edition of our ‘Day in the life series’ we speak to them to learn more about their role and how they contribute to successful projects.

What’s the main purpose of your role?

To provide support for our finance team colleagues and other departments, especially our channel managers, who we work closely with.

We help ensure orders are processed and reported efficiently so there’s a seamless process from the moment a purchase order comes in, right through to the client being invoiced.

In addition to ensuring back office processes and systems are operating efficiently, we contribute to the preparation of monthly accounts and collaborate with other departments on new projects.

Talk us through a typical day

Like many finance roles, there are general finance and administration duties involved, for example, the reconciliation and management of creditor accounts.

The opportunity to work on new projects presents us with the most interesting tasks. Careful consideration and preparation of all of the information at hand enables us to present the channel managers with competitive pricing.

No two projects are the same, whether we’re working on a new project or continuing work on an existing project. There are always a variety of variables to consider with each individual product and client.

We’re also continually looking for ways our systems can be improved to make processes run smoother and people’s jobs that little bit easier.

What are your favourite things about working at RAP?

There are plenty of opportunities to learn. The size of our company means we get involved in many different projects, which we wouldn’t necessarily be able to do within a larger business.

We also work really closely with the other departments, so if we need to speak to a member of another team, such as technical or design, we’re able to do so face to face. As a result, the teams are integrated in a way that serves clients effectively at every stage.

What problems do you help clients solve?

We provide tailored products and always go that extra mile for our clients. We have the expertise to provide an end-to-end solution, from the design to production and delivery, and we have the in-house expertise to deliver all of the services ourselves.

We enjoy working with clients from an early stage so we can refine the product along the way. This makes the client’s life easier and, ultimately, provides them with a product that best meets their needs.

How have you developed professionally since joining RAP?

We’re currently studying for our Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) qualification, which RAP are supporting us on. Over the past year and a half, we have both passed three exams and have found the course invaluable in working in the manufacturing industry.                                   

We’ve also developed our business awareness and learnt about working as part of a wider team. As a result we’re always looking for more responsibility and new ways of continuing our professional development.
